Christmas Day

Christmas Day started unusually late for us. After the events of the previous evening the boys actually slept in!

Rather than providing a long winded explanation, here is a slideshow of images from the day

Merry Christmas all!

Christmas Eve

I'm running a little bit behind in my blogging, but, better late than never.

Christmas Eve was a bit of a shemozzle this year because Lucas and Sam had high temperatures which weren't responding to Panadol (mainly because they were either spitting it out of pooping it out depending on what sort we were giving them) and that sort of set the scene for how everything else played out.

We were at Nana and Poppy's house for presents and a delicious dinner. The little boys had high temperatures most of the afternoon and weren't happy. They did go down for a sleep and we managed to slip in some present opening around the tree.

Then we started a delicious dinner at which time the boys, predictably woke up. They were happy for a while but started to deteriorate by the end of dinner. We managed to have a quick chat with Krissy and Glen via Skype but by then their temperatures were heading into the red zone (above 38.5 celsius) so Meeks and I took them off to the hospital while Mitch went to sleep at Nana and Poppy's. We were seen by the Triage nurse quite quickly and Lucas' temperature had come down by then (of course!) but Sam was still high. We were shown into a private room and then had to wait a looooong time to see a doctor. Fortunately there was a TV and we watched Father of the Bride which is one of Meeks' favourites and the boys went to sleep on the bed. Eventually a doctor arrived and had a good look at the boys. He said they had slightly inflamed throats and had a virus and that both of their temperatures had come down now. So we left, relieved that it wasn't something bad, but very disappointed that the evening hadn't turned out as we had hoped. We eventually managed to get home by about 12 and then after getting things ready for the following morning fell into bed.

Merry Christmas

I suspect I wont get a chance to update the blog tomorrow, so Merry Christmas from all of us!

We have indeed been blessed this year and thank God for our three beautiful boys.

We thank you all for reading this little blog, and hope you have a safe and happy New Year.

Love, Dave, Meeks, Mitch, Lucas and Sam.

Welcome home Uncle Jamie and Auntie Phaik

Jamie and Phaik are very briefly back in Sydney for Christmas.

In fact they were in Sydney for a day before flying off to Melbourne this afternoon and then coming back at various stages. In any case, we had a breakfast for them this morning where they finally got to meet Sam and Lucas

Lucas and Sam were very cute as always

As was Will

Mitch and Lilly ran around all over the place playing together

A fun morning and it was great to see Jamie and Phaik again, if briefly before they flew off again.

Me and the little boys

We had a black out this morning and I was meant to be working from home, so I had a bit of free time so I thought I'd do a bit of experimenting with the camera and lights. While I was playing around Sam and Lucas woke up so I though I would include them in the fun.

Here are a few of the shots that came out, first Sam then Lucas

Lucas is the better smiler for the camera, but Sam is just cute, cute, cute!

Sleeping through?

I feel like I'm going to jinx us by saying this, but it appears Lucas and Sam are finally getting the messgae about sleeping through. They have both slept through 4 out of the last 5 nights - and on the other night only one of them woke up (I can't remember which). Admittedly they're waking up at anywhere between 5:30am and 6:30am, but it is better than 2am or 3am or 4am. Even Mitch who has been waking up either because of nightmares or coughing has been sleeping better too.

Mitch's hearing issues are not getting any better so Meeks is taking him to the doctor on Friday to get it checked out. At the moment you can stand behind him and say his name in a quiet voice and he does not hear you at all. He has no chance if you whisper his name. If he looks at you when you speak he hears you which is a combination of hearing you and looking at your lips as well. If he's not looking at you, you have to talk quite loudly for him to hear you. He also has trouble hearing the TV at normal volume. It is all a bit of a worry. He has tiny ear canals like me and has complained that when he speaks it's like he's yawning which I guess means that kind of muddy tone you get when your ears are blocked. The doctor looked at his ears a few weeks ago and they didn't have any obvious blockage or infection or anything so it's not that. Hopefully it will be something that fixes itself up and soon, it is frustrating having to tell him things over and over, especially in the car, but mostly we just hope he is okay.

More baby photos

Someone who shall remain nameless (let's just call her "Sharon" for the moment) has been hassling me to put more photos and news of the boys up. Normally I wouldn't bow to such pressure, but "just because it's Christmas" (extra points for the movie that quote comes from) ...

Lucas and Sam above. Just Lucas below.

Some news then. Well as many of you know we've been having a horrible time with various members of the family being sick. There's been coughs and colds and bronchitis and tonsillitis and conjunctivitis. Meeks has either been going to the doctor or taking one of the boys to the doctor every week for about the last 4 or 5 weeks. Hopefully we're coming out the other side of it now, although Mitch and Sam still are a bit crook. Mitch also has trouble hearing at the moment because of his cold. Hopefully it will clear up once he's healthy again, if not it's off to see a specialist I guess. Fingers crossed!

Lucas and Sam are now 7 months old and both weighing around 9kg. Sam has caught up a lot to Lucas and is only a couple of hundred grams behind. This is more due to Lucas slowing down than Sam speeding up though. While Lucas was sick he didn't eat too much.

In terms of progress. Lucas is now sitting up really well. He's not 100% stable, but mostly stays up. We leave a pillow behind him just in case. Sam is not so stable, but catching up. Sam however was much better at standing up than Lucas. He was able to lock his legs and stand supported much better than Lucas initially, although now Lucas has caught up. Neither of them can roll from front to back or vice versa, but Lucas moves around a bit when he's on his tummy, mostly swiveling from side to side.

Just yesterday, Sam started doing an extremely cute babbling noise, sort of a "baba mama da dada" type thing which he had never done before it is very cute.

And just to keep "Sharon" happy
