Progress and a sick little boy

No photos today as Mitch has a nasty cold and is quite unattractive with a blocked nose, snottiness and dribble. Still very cute though.

On the other hand he has learnt a few new tricks.

Last Monday he stood up from the ground by himself. He didn't really realise what he had done and hasn't really done it again. Only Meeks was home to see it, so hopefully he'll do it again soon.

Another thing new thing he has learnt to do is clapping and he's very happy with himself about it. He's very cute about it and thinks he deserves to be clapped everytime he claps and when he sees us clapping he starts again ... and so it goes on.

He's also learnt to point out things out. If you say, "Where is Daddy's nose?" he point's to my nose. He can also point to Daddy's hair, Mummy's hair, Mummy's nose, Poppy's hair, Towie (his tow truck he got for his birthday), Ball (his big blue ball), and when you say "bottle" he points to the cupboard where the bottles are kept.

Talking of food, Mitch seems to have gotten over his profound dislike of fruit. Previously, he would scarcely let it past his lips, and banana even caused him to gag. Now he makes a mess of it but eats it happily. He likes banana and mandarin, but isn't mad about rockmelon. He likes to get the mandarin and squeeze the juice out of it so it runs down his arm and then he puts it in his mouth, gives it a chew, takes it out, puts it back in again and this goes on until it is either eaten or dropped, where upon he starts on the next segment. Banana is pretty much the same story although less juicy and more gooey. Both are of course very messy!

He's mad about books too. Every time we get him out of bed he points straight to his bookshelf. Meeks and I have read "Hairy McClary", "Who is hiding under the ocean?", "Bear About Town", and various "That's not my teddy bear/bunny/dinosaur/car" books so many times we can pretty much repeat them without having to look at the words. In fact he doesn't even need us to be there, he'll quite happily "read" them himself.

Anyway, that's all the news. Hopefully Mitch will be healthy again soon. He doesn't get sick very often, so we can't complain, but it's not pretty when he does.

News

Mitch is getting better and better at standing. He can't quite stand up by himself, but almost. Once he's up though he's getting better at standing up for longer like in this photo

He got some very cute pyjamas for his birthday which fit okay on the top, but they're a bit long in the leg.


We had some left over bubbles from Mitch's party so we had a bit of a play on the deck.





Meeks goes back to work next Wednesday which is going to be a tough day for all of us. I have the rest of this week and up until Wednesday next week off work so we can have a bit of family time together before Meeks goes back to work.

Mitch stands unsupported! (Updated)

I have some pictures of it at home, but not with me. Mitch was reaching into one of his toy boxes and pulled out a toy and then stood unsupported for about 20-30 seconds whilst playing with it. He did it a few times including one time where he pressed few buttons on his toy mobile phone and then sort of put it to his ear like he had seen mummy and daddy doing. It was very cute.

So Mitch has passed another milestone. He still can't get up without help from something, but once he is up he can stand for a little while by himself. He'd done it before for a few seconds, but never for this long. What a clever boy!

This comes at the end of a very trying week for Meeks and I. For most of last week Mitch was a real handful. He was waking up crying during the night (at 11pm and 5am which he generally never does) and grizzling a lot and crying when we put him down for sleeps during the day and then he'd only have really short sleeps and generally wasn't a happy little boy. Then on Friday night he slept through the night, and woke up happy on Saturday morning and went down for his sleeps on time and even slept in on Sunday morning and also this morning. It's like he's a different boy! We don't know if he was teething last week (we can't see or feel any new teeth) or if he was going through a growth spurt, but either way he's returned to his normal happy self and we are very relieved!

Okay, he's not standing up by himself yet, but yesterday evening after he had been put to bed and was meant to be asleep I walked into his room, because he'd been making "I'm not asleep noises" and found him standing up holding on to the bars of his cot looking at the door. He was so gorgeous, but given he was meant to be asleep I didn't want to make a big fuss and praise him. He did it again a bit later, still not really interested in going to sleep. Oh well, very cute but a little naughty!

Things are happening so quickly

A couple of weeks ago Mitch was what you might call a "blobby" baby. He pretty much lay there and did nothing - well, he could roll over and wriggle around, but not much else. Then last weekend he was getting up onto his knees, then a few days later he was crawling. Towards the end of last week he worked out how to go from lying down to sitting up by himself (which he was very proud of) and then yesterday he worked out how to pull himself up to standing on something (which just happened to be the coffee table at Phil and Shaz's - there were cookies on it - not that he knows what cookies are).

I'm sure that means it's only a few more weeks and he'll be asking for the car keys and telling us old folk not to wait up. Sigh ... I guess I should change the insurance on the car and then get my slippers and blanket.
